Formally the Sun Alliance the Ballymore in 2007 was won by Massini's Maguire who had experienced mixed fortunes since beating Wichita Lineman over course and distance in November but returned to form by holding off Tidal bay and Catch Me as he held on gamely when challanger after the last. He edged right after the last as he began to tire but his battling qualities stood him in good stead. His trainer sees him as a chaser for next season, with a return for the Royal & SunAlliance Chase looking a possibility..1. Massini's Maguire (R Johnston) 20/1
2. Tidal Bay (P Brennan) 10/1
3. Catch Me (B Geragthy) 7/1

Sun Alliance Novices Hurdle 2004 Results
Just eight weeks before, Fizz Griffin and Killy Pennell went for a night out with their husbands at a pub owned by trainer Nigel Twiston-Davies. The evening went so well that the two women went home as first-time owners of Fundamentalist - and their investment has been swiftly and handsomely rewarded. They went a decent pace and Fundamentalist showed himself to be an exciting prospect, moving smoothly into the lead after two out, then idling and hitting the last and not scoring as emphatically as it had appeared he might at the expense of Inglis Drever, who never seemed entirely happy. He was being niggled along as early as the fourth flight, and after moving up to challenge, he edged left and tended to hang in the latter stages, although, to his credit, he kept on strongly.
Sun Alliance Novices Hurdle 2003 Results
The closing stages of the 2003 Novice Hurdle witnessed and extremely close three way finish. Hardy Eustace moved to the front of the field at the last fence and managed to complete the victory with under two lengths to spare. Coolnagorna ran in a fine second but was disqualified following a stewards enquiry two from home. The race favourite was promoted to second following the disqualification, Pizarro although trying hard had been able to make up the distance in the final strides. Perhaps the biggest impression made in the Novice Hurdle was from the third placed Lord Sam, who despite making several jumping mistakes was present at the end for a memorable finish.
