Race OverviewNot a strong renewal, with the race weakened by some high-profile absentees.Poquelin looks the one horse close to guaranteed to run a big one but he wasn't good enough last year when beaten decisively by Albertas Run - whose current wellbeing is a potential issue - and could be vulnerable again. A chance is taken that a change of scenery has rekindled the flame for VOY POR USTEDES, who has had a couple of glory days at this meeting in the past, would have the winning of this on his old form and has been supplemented for this. Connections surely wouldn't ask him to go into battle once more unless he'd been showing plenty at home.[Mel Cullinan]

Poquelin jumped towards the top of the Ryanair Chase Odds for 2011 with his second successive win in the Vote AP Gold Cup at the Cheltenham during the International Meeting back in December. It was an excellent weight carrying performance for the Paul Nicholls horse, he enjoys it around Cheltenham and his target looks like being the Ryanair once again this season after finishing second in the race in March.
Tranquil Sea started the season in impressive fashion and he enters the Ryanair Chase picture as a live contender to challenge the likes of Poquelin and Albertas Run, his weakness was his inconsistency as he showed when 9th in the Ryanair last season. He looks to have improved though this term with wins at Clonmel and then more impressively when winning the John Durkan Memorial Chase at Fairyhouse last time out, that day he beat the likes of Cooldine and J'Y Vole in some style and has to be taken seriously here for Edward O'Grady.
Another one who looks to be in with a chance in the Ryanair this season is Tartak who put his name into the ring with an impressive win in the Victor Chandler Chase at Cheltenham on New Years Day. He had already won the Peterborough Chase in December and backed that up with this impressive win for Tom George, he is a consistent performer and clearly acts around Cheltenham making him a solid each-way bet for the Ryanair Chase. We last saw Tartak run below par when 5th in the Betfair Ascot Chase behind Riverside Theatre, he travelled well but looked one paced in the final stages and connections will be hoping it improves for the Ryanair.
One that will be stepping up in trip for the Ryanair Chase this season is Kalahari King who could prove to be a major player in the race at Cheltenham. He is a horse with a good record around Cheltenham having come second in the Arkle in 2009 before running well to finish third in the Champion Chase behind Big Zeb last season. They were both over 2 miles but are below par runs in the Tingle Creek at Cheltenham in December and then a 5th place in a Bumper at Southwell at the end of December thoughts turned to sending him over the extra trip of the Ryanair. We last saw him finish 4th in the Victor Chandler Chase at Ascot in January over 2 miles and by the way he stayed on it was clear he would relish the extra trip making him a major player in the Ryanair field this season.
