Arkle Contenders Emerge
The Arkle is always one of the main races at the Cheltenham festival and bit by bit we are starting to get a brief picture of some of the contenders come next March. One of the key ingredients to making it as a top class chaser is the ability to jump under pressure. Come Cheltenham there will be no quarter given coming down the hill at pace, jumping the two fences coming into the staright and it is vital that you have a great jumper on your side.At the Tingle Creek meeting at Sandown we got a look at one such possible for the Arkle in the paddypowerpoker Henry VIII Novices' Chase. The horse in question is Marodima trained by Paul Nicholls and owned by David Johnson, you could only be impressed by his jumping in a quality test for this four year old. What is evident is that his four previous runs over the larger fences have stood him in good stead, as now he is very profession for a novice.
Paul Nicholls is building a very strong team for the festival as usual and Marodima will be a definite for the his festival shortlist. The current favourite for the Arkle Tidal Bay needs to improve on his jumping following his first run over fences.
