There may be one of the best ever chasers in Nickname never to run at the Cheltenham festival which would be a really big pity as the festival is were all the very best perform. The very simple reason is that nickname needs soft ground and very rarely is the ground soft in March at the Cheltenham racecourse. Therefore it is only in the depths of winter that we get to see this wonderful horse strut his stuff.Nickname is due to make his seasonal return at Leopardstown over Christmas in the Paddy Power Dial-A-Bet Chase December 27. This top chaser won 6 graded races this year and in a recent interview trainer Brassil said "Nickname is on target for the Paddy Power Dial-A-Bet Chase and I am very happy with his work. He didn't start off as early as last year because the ground has been too firm in Ireland." He added: "The ground was good to firm for the Fortria Chase at Navan and we have been waiting for the ground, but it has changed now."
The next question for trainer Brassil is who will ride him as Ruby Walsh will most probably be in the UK on that day.
