Lough Derg to Take on the World
Lough Derg has been backed into 12/1 with VCbet for the Ladbroke World Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival following his all the way win in the Long Walk Hurdle at the Ascot Christmas meeting. Every year there is a race that a Pipe runner steals from the front and this was it, as his competitors let him have an easy lead and they just could not get to him in the home straight. The 20/1 still on offer with totesport for the World Hurdle looks more realistic as he will not get away with this again and he will find it much tougher next time.On saying that he did everything right and caused a real shock with the more fancied Hardy Eustace and Blak Jack in the field. Lough Derg was allowed far too much rope by the riders of all but no hoper Oscardeal, and he never really looked as if he was going to be collared.
On saying that, there is really no solid evidence to suggest he is significantly better than he was last season, when he started at 40-1 for the Ladbroke World Hurdle but could only finish ninth in this Cheltenham Festival race.
