Kicking King Returns to Action

Kicking King will return to action on Sunday in the Normans Grove Chase at Fairyhouse. We have not seen this 2005 Cheltenham Gold Cup winner for more than two years on a racetrack since his victory in the King George in the same year, where he won by the shortest of margins. This will be a red letter day for Irish Racing fans who love their stars and we all hope that he can get round safely as this is only a prep for bigger and better thins later in the season should he still retain the sparkle that saw him reach the very top of this sport.

His trainer Tom Taaffe is putting him into a two mile contest in order to sharpen him up and went onto say. "I want to try to get him to a Gold Cup and if we can, get him there in the best possible shape," "He's not run for two years so Sunday will be all about getting the rustiness out of him and getting some match practice again. "He's fit and well and we'll hope he runs a good race but he's obviously lacking a bit of practice. "We'll get it out of the way over two miles, which should sharpen him up, and bring out a better horse again the next day."

If all goes well on Sunday he is likely to have one more outing before the Gold Cup in March, anyone interested in a nibble at 40's!
