Willie Mullins Cheltenham Horses

The Willie Mullins Cheltenham Horses continue to make their mark as his latest fencing mare J'y Vole could be future star. After she won the Dr. P.J. Moriarty Novice Chase at Leopardstown on Hennessy day, she showed that she has a big heart and this goes a long way in this game. She was less than fluent at several fences and jumped right, she gave up the lead coming into the straight and yet battled back to win well going away in the last 50 yards.

While the bookies have her quoted for the Arkle and the Royal & Sun Alliance it is not clear that she will turn up at the festival. Firstly, her jumping errors suggest she might be better going right handed at Fairyhouse. Secondly, the races at Cheltenham may fall in between two stools, as she may lack the basic speed needed in an Arkle unless the ground came up very soft, and her style of running would make it difficult for her to get the trip in the Sun Alliance.

Willie Mullins admitted afterwards to being flabbergasted by the manner of her win, He said: "She did everything possible wrong. She did not settle, jumped badly to the right, made a bad mistake at what ought to have been a crucial stage and still came back to win. She must have some engine."
