Binocular was a 1m1f-1m2f horse on the Flat in France, had made a pleasing winning debut over hurdles for new connections at Ascot and the third and fourth from that race had both scored since. He was sent off an odds-on favourite and travelled like one for much of the way, but had to work hard to get the better of Pierrot Lunaire.
He generally remained at about 8-1 with bookmakers for the JCB Triumph Hurdle after the race, but it should be noted his owner also has the favourite for that contest in Franchoek.
