Kicking King Out Of Cheltenham Gold Cup
Kicking King is out of the Cheltenham Gold Cup after a poor work out this morning. In an interview with attheraces on Thursday owner Conor Clarkson indicated that Kicking King did not work well and so trainer Tom Taaffe and jockey Barry Geraghty decided that is was not right for him to take his place in the Cheltenham Gold Cup at the Cheltenham festival this year.
This is not the end of the road for the 2005 Cheltenham Gold Cup winner and if he comes back to himself in the next few weeks, he may take his chance at the Punchestown Festival later this year. Kicking King has made a successful return to the track in recent months and it was hoped that he could get back to his best in time for this years Gold Cup. The most important thing is that no risks are taken with the horse and it is hoped that we will get to see him back in the winners enclosure in the not to distant future.
It is getting more probable by the day that Paul Nicholls could get three of this horse to fill the first three home in the race this year, with Kauto Star and Denman likely to come in first and second and possibly Neptune Collonges or Star De Mohaison to fill the third spot.
