Grand National Gambles
Pulling off Grand National gambles is something that everyone dreams of and there is no better story than the 2003 Grand National winner Money's Pass. A big time gambler named Mike Futter, was the brains behind the Dee Racing Syndicate who owned Money's Pass and they knew one thing that nobody else did and that was that their horse was a stone better going left handed and he was rated mainly on right hand tracks in the period leading up to his weighting in the 2003 National.
Futter started backing his horse at prices of 66/1 and below and got enough on to win nearly a million pounds. His price got shorter as the day got closer and it finally went off a 16/1 chance, the rest is history.
In 2008 we have seen big money for a J.P McManus horse called King Johns Castle, who has been backed from 33/1 to 16/1. It is not sure what is behind this Grand National gamble but the fact that Tony McCoy will probably take up the ride is not enough to see these odds crashing. No doubt there will be loads of publicity on this next week.
