The Grand National jockeys begin to make their choices as trainers finalise plans for this weekends race. Ruby Walsh will ride Hedgehunter instead of Turko and Richard Johnson will take the ride. This is probably a choice out of sentiment having won the race on him in 2005 as at the age of 12 Hedgehunter's best days are behind him. There has only being 3 winners who were aged 12 over the last 28 years.
Another who has let sentiment get in the way is Tony McCoy who has gone for Butler's Cabin winner of last years Irish Grand National. On the face of it this looks a pretty good choice, but not if you are Mick Fitzgerald who had to try and get him round Wincanton on his last outing. Mick almost had to get off him and lift him round the track as he is now looks a horse who does not want to race at the moment.
It looks like Timmy Murphy will ride Comply or Die and this looks a good partnership with an outstanding chance in the race. The full list of Jockeys will be confirmed on Thursday lunchtime.
