Paul Nicholls Grand National 3
Champion trainer Paul Nicholls has 3 horses running this year's Grand National with Mr Pointment 18-1 and Turko 25-1 plus outsider Cornish Sett at 100-1. Having won the Beecher Chase in November 2007 Mr Pointment is in my opinion great value each way if the horse has recovered form a burst blood vessel sustained in December. Cloudy Lane should have the class to win with a clear run, however, with odds of 5-1 I do not believe this is good value in a race of this nature.
To most the Grand National is the greatest horse race in the world, with 30 fences and a maximum of 40 runners experience counts for a lot at Aintree. Last years 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Mckelvey currently 20-1, Slim Pickens 10-1 and Philson run 25-1 respectively all have a chance on Saturday, however, the money’s on Cloudy lane who is the 5-1 favourite. The horse is one of the shortest priced in years and is trained by Donald McCain Jr, son of Ginger McCain who trained the famous Red Rum.
