Punchestown Festival - Day 3
The Punchestown Festival continues today and on Day 3 the feature is the Ladbrokes Hurdle where Blazing Bailey looks to follow up his victory at Aintree. On Day 2 the hero was Neptune Collonges who won the Guinness Gold Cup. He did so without breaking sweat with a performance on par with his victory in 2007. He once again led for most of the way and apart from a few errors he attacked his fences with relish.
Ruby Walsh never looked in trouble he went clear at the fourth last fence. Neptune Collonges is the third choice in the Paul Nicholls yard behind Denman and Kauto Star. The mark he posted when a running on third in the Gold Cup was superior to that given to very many Gold Cup winners, and that reflects the enormous improvement the French-bred has found this term. Only seven, he is around a stone better this season than he was last season, and given that he will still be a young horse when he starts out next winter, there is every chance that he will get even better.
