Take The Stand Cheltenham Champion Hunter Chaser

The Philip Bowen trained Take The Stand won the Champion Hunter Chase at Cheltenham last evening. This once top class chaser came to Cheltenham following two recent hunter chase victories to his name and easily made it three. This once top class chaser made most of the pace along with Cannon Bridge but he had to much firepower for this rival and at the top of the hill he was always in charge and while Mister Friday tried hard to peg him back he won well with You Do The Math finishing third. Take The Stand had beaten Merchants Friend a head over course and distance last month, and now carried a double penalty of 6lb, but that rival was in trouble when unseating three out.

The winner was ridden by Donal Devereux was clamis that the winner had improved and owner David Robbins said: "Peter Bowen insisted the horse should have a proper break at grass last summer, and that's why it took him time to get fully fit. He'll go to Stratford now for the Pertemps Cup on May 24."
