Tatenen Nicholls New Arkle Favourite

We all now know who is Paul Nicholls new favourite for the 2009 Arkle Chase at the Cheltenham Festival. We all had a hint of what was to come following last years Juveniles Novices Hurdle trial at Cheltenham where Tatenen tried to make a race of it with Franchoek. He did too much on this day and finished fifth and Paul Nicholls put him away to save him for a chase campaign.

We saw the benefit of this patience yesterday at Aintree when Tatenen gave a really impressive first display over the larger fences in the intercasino.co.uk Molyneux Novices' Chase. Following this victory the bookmakers have installed him as the 7/1 favourite for next year Arkle.

Nicholls has a number of contenders for this race and it will be interesting to see over the coming months how many of his horses are at the top of the betting with horses like IMsingingtheblues who won the WBX.COM Irish Racing Beginners' Chase at Kempton last weekend by 8 lengths and Kicks For Free just two others who are both a 14/1 chances.

The Paul Nicholls-trained Tatenen is the first big mover of the jumps season and is 5-1 from 7-1 with totesport for the Arkle Trophy.

Spokesman Damian Walker said: “Paul Nicholls was bad news for the bookies last year and it is no surprise to see that the first big ante-post move of the jumps season is trained by him. Punters have total confidence in Nicholls delivering the goods in these big races and Ruby Walsh in the saddle completes the punters’ dream team.

“Tatenen was backed a big prices for the Arkle prior to his run at Aintree on Saturday and having gone 7-1 following that win, we have been forced to cut Tatenen’s odds to 5-1 after further support.”
