Kauto Star has been backed for the King George and the Cheltenham Gold Cup following his sensational victory in the JNwine.com Champion Chase at Down Royal yesterday. The sponsors of the two races Stan James and Totesport ha brought in his odds for these races as Kauto Star is 5-2 from 10-3 with the sponsors to win back his totesport Gold Cup crown following his easy win. Kauto Star is evens (from 11/8) for the Stan James UK King George VI Chase at Kempton on Boxing Day with the sponsors. The 2007 Cheltenham Gold Cup winnner has also been clipped a point to 3/1 (from 4) for the 2009 blue riband event.
Spokesman Damian Walker for totesport said: “This looked little more than an exercise canter for Kauto Star and at this stage - given the current relative fitness of Kauto Star and Denman - I know which horse I’d rather be on in the totesport Gold Cup. “Denman is still our 6-4 favourite (from 11-8) but it is getting closer between the big two, with Kauto Star 5-2 from 10-3.”
