Champion jockey, Tony McCoy proved why he is the greatest jockey around when he drove favourite, Witchita Lineman to a fantastic victory in the William Hill Trophy Handicap Chase. It was a vintage McCoy performance, who had been given his horse reminders from as early as the first circuit, there were also a couple of really poor jumping errors that almost put paid to his chances, however McCoy held the partnership together and he continued to gather momentum joining the leaders from three out.
By this stage, it was Maljimar and Nenuphar Collonges, (who had been the subject of a huge gamble beforhand), who appeared to be fighting it out for the win, but McCoy with his never say die attitude came from almost nowhere and was responsible for driving his mount to the line, going past Nenuphar Collonges in the process. He then took the race from Maljimar in the last stride or two.
