Mikael D'Haguenet Stamps Class To Win Ballymore Novices

One of the most eagerly awaited races at the 2009 Cheltenham Festival, the Ballymore Novices Hurdle, over 2 miles and 5 furlongs attracted a very strong field of 14 proven runners.

The betting however got the result of this race absolutely correct when favourite, Mikael D'Haguenet stamped his class on the field and won in imperious style from a very game effort from the Alan King trained, Karabak. The winner looked every bit a top grade horse, the sky could be the limit as he loooked every bit a Champion Hurdler to come. It was the second festival winner for jockey, Ruby Walsh and also for trainer, Willie Mullins.

Karabak will also be a good horse, he showed speed, stamina and courage but was just not good enough on the day. Diamond Harry finished a creditable third, while the other big fancy in the race, Mad Max, seemed not to get the trip after being prominent throughout.
