Is there anything that can beat Big Bucks in March. We will have another look at some of the contenders for the Cheltenham Festival at the end of the month in the Cleeve Hurdle. Lie Forrit a horse on the up and is trained by Willie Amos and is a probable starter . He has notched up four wins from six starts over the smaller obstacles. A recent victory was in the Jardine Lloyd Thompson Handicap Hurdle at The Open meeting on November 14, where he was very impressive when beating Earth Planet after which he went to Newbury and won a Pertemps qualifier.
Is this form good enough to challenge Big Bucks on the big day in the Ladbrokes World Hurdle? the answer is probably not but at least we may have a horse that can make the Champion Stayer work to retain his title.
It was in the 2009 running of the Cleeve Hurdle that we witnessed the coming of a new star at this distance when Big Bucks beat the favourite Punchestowns. The final result at the festival was the same as the Cleeve and this is why this race is considered the main trial for the World Hurdle.
