It is great to be back in the swing of it, with top class National Hunt action both in the UK and Ireland over the weekend. At Ascot we got to see a perfect performance by Twist Magic and at Haydock Diamond Harry looks a novice of some ability. In Ireland Solwhit took the Irish Champion Hurdle in impressive style and goes to the head of that market. Rite of Passage strengthened the claims of the Irish in the Supreme Novices.
When one looks at the first day of the festival it is very clear that the Irish have outstanding claims in four of the races, the Supreme Novices with Dunguib. They look pretty good in the Arkle with Sizing Europe and Captain Cee Bee, the first and second favourites. The Cross Country Chase should just be given to Enda Bolger and Garde Champetre. Then the David Nicholson Mares Hurdle has Quevega and Voler La Vedette again the one, two in the betting. Are you taking note Irish Bookies, Paddy Power and Boylesports as this could be the day from hell for you. Oh yes, how about Solwhit in the Champion Hurdle. Many of the bookies will be offering odds on the number of Irish winners at the festival and we think that a good number will come day one.
However, there will be some relief for the above mentioned bookies as it is not looking so rosy for the Irish for the rest of the week, but it is highly likely that the punters will be betting with the bookies money for most of the week.
