The ante post favourite for the Triumph Hurdle Mille Chief came home well clear of his nearest rival Great Reason in the Huntingdon Racecourse Novice Hurdle this afternoon. He justified the 2/9 on starting price winning with any amount in hand from his nearest rival in the betting. This is another likely Alan King novice and he could well go on to emulate the likes of Katchit who went on the win the Champion Hurdle in 2008.
It is very difficult to assess the form of these kind of races and we can only hope that he faces a more sterner test in his final preparation race at the end of February. Many will even suggest that the winner of the 2010 Triumph Hurdle has not been seen out on track yet due to all the meetings that have gone by the wayside to the bad weather in early January.
Mille Chief will be shortened in the betting market for the March Festival by all the bookmakers but mainly as this win gives them the opportunity to shorten his price. The only bookie to stand their ground is Victor Chandler.
