The Champion Bumper is quickly developing a reputation as one of the most eagerly anticipated races of any Cheltenham Festival having had some excellent renewals in recent years. Its unique as it is the only race at the Festival that is run on the flat but under National Hunt rules, it has thrown up some top winners in the past including the brilliant Dunguib in 2009. He is a top class horse that looks destined for great things which is a sign of how the Champion Bumper can also throw up some good tips for future National Hunt champions. There are number of good looking horses with entries to the 2010 race as we search for our next star of the future.
The 2010 Champion Bumper Betting is looking competitive with the Irish Trainer Dermot Weld having a strong hand in the race with two top contenders. Elegant Concorde is the first of the Dermot Weld runners who looks too have a great chance according to the Champion Bumper Odds following a good run at Christmas. We last saw him take a good win at Leopardstown on Boxing Day, he has been targeted towards the Champion Bumper and on that form has to be a real live contender. Hidden Universe is a stablemate of Elegant Concorde and the bookmakers are struggling to split the pair for the Champion Bumper. Hidden Universe is a year younger than Elegant Concorde but showed great form in winning at Leopardstown in January in a race which is a good trial for the Bumper. He has only had the one run so far so difficult to back him without worry but if improves then he will go very close indeed.
One man who is always worth following in the Champion Bumper and the Cheltenham Festival as a whole is Willie Mullins and he like always has a strong chance in this one. Mullins won the race in 2008 with Cousin Vinny and will be looking towards Day Of A Lifetime to do the same in 2010. He has won on his only start so far this season in February and looks to have good potential, Willie Mullins always has his horses ready for Cheltenham and this is one who should be taken seriously. One horse that does look great value in the Bumper Betting is Shot From The Hip who has looked very impressive on his two runs so far this term. He won with something in the tank last time at Leopardstown and looked to be a classy type who has masses of potential for Edward O'Grady.
