The entries for the 2012 Arkle Novice Chase at the Cheltenham Festival have been announced and there is a top class list of 27 at this early stage. All of the well backed horses in the ante post betting are included with Sprinter Sacre, Peddlers Cross and Al Ferof the stand out names. Sprinter Sacre produced a stunning display at Kempton over Christmas when he demolished Peddlers Cross in the William Hill Novices Chase to take Arkle favouritism. The Nicky Henderson horse produced a strong gallop that day which forced Peddlers into jumping mistakes and the pair of them are likely to rematch at Cheltenham. Prior to that run, Peddlers Cross had been highly impressive and connections are convinced he was below his best at Kempton, he clearly deserves a second chance to impress. Those two deserve to be at the head of the market but there is still plenty of value to be found further doen the market in what looks an enticing race.
Al Ferof produced the best novice performance of the season according to the ratings when third in the Victor Chandler Chase at Ascot recently. The Paul Nicholls horse was running out of novice company for the first time and was by no means disgraced behind the likes of Somersby and Finians Rainbow. Al Ferof is of course a Festival winner already having won the Supreme Novices Hurdle last season and that form should not be ignored by punters. Outside of the big three other interesting Arkle Chase entries this season include the progressive Blackstairmountain and Sir Des Champs who could both take their chance for Willie Mullins. The Irish challenge at Cheltenham is always a strong one but they face a tough task this season up against the top three British challengers in the betting. The Arkle often proves to be many punters favourite race of the Festival and looking over the list of entries for 2012 it is shaping up to be another top class renewal.
