Hedgehunter to run in the Gold Cup

Hedgehunter to run in the Gold Cup next Friday when trainer Willie Mullins confirmed that last year's Grand National winner will bid for Cheltenham glory.

Mullins announced that owner Trevor Hemmings had "given the green light" for Hedgehunter to run on Friday, when his Aintree winning pilot Ruby Walsh will be on board.

"Maybe Hedgehunter was a bit shorter work-wise than I had thought for the Hennessy at Leopardstown last month," said Mullins. "Although he more or less ran to his rating I was a bit disappointed. He did sweat a lot before the race and got very tired.

"I'm very happy with him now and when he worked and schooled under Mick Fitzgerald at Leopardstown last Sunday we were very happy with what he did. He was doing his best work towards the end of the gallop and that was encouraging."
