In one of the most competitive handicaps of the festival week, the juvenile hurdle was won well by Shamayoun who came into the race in good form having routed his opposition in his warm up race and was allowed to go off at 40/1 to give Paddy Brennan his first Cheltenham Festival success. He gave Shamayoun a great ride and had his opposition struggling coming down the hill and stayed on well to come home a clear cut winner.

Fred Winter Juvenile Handicap Hurdle 2005 Result

The real story of this race was Nina Carberry, sister to Paul Carberry and a lady rider who will go all the way to the top in this game. Dabiroun came away from his field to take this race in real style and give trainer Paul Nolan his first Cheltenham Festival winner. Dabrioun had seemed to be a non finisher in his previous races in Ireland but the better ground saw his true talents come to the fore.

Juvenile Handicap Hurdle 2004 Result

The way the race was run suited the recalcitrant Creon ideally as he was waited with, made headway approaching three out and weaved his way through from the last to lead close home for a narrow success. GVA Ireland is an improving sort and ran a good Cheltenham race, always prominent and leading from the last until close home. The good test suited him and he showed here he does not need soft ground to show his form. Alexanderthegreat, who has bolted up the weights following his fine effort against Baracouda at Sandown, turned in another very good effort.

The last race of the day also produced the tightest finish so far with Inching Closer being awarded the race after a photo finish. Barry Geraghty recorded his second Cheltenham winner of the day in a hard fought final two furlongs, edging out the impressive Royal Emperor. Despite the suggestions that Royal Emperor prefers soft ground, he put in a very good round of jumping and ran with the pace throughout the race. With a little further improvement he will certainly worth looking at in the 2004 Festival betting. Tribal Venture stayed on well to claim third place in what was only his sixth race over hurdles.
