The Cheltenham National Hunt Amateur Chase is probably one of the most difficult betting events to predict of the entire Festival. At four miles in distance it is an incredibly long trip for the amateur competitors and choosing horses with stamina doubts should be avoided at all costs.

Despite the fact that no favourites have won the race in the last seven years we would still advise studying the Cheltenham Betting market when making your selection. The best tip for such novice events is to simply look for which horse the leading amateur jockeys have been booked for.

The final race on Thursday is the new Juvenile Handicap Hurdle.

Hot weld has displayed his liking for good ground and stays forever and while this race was not run at a fast pace he got a great ride and the run of the race to win a very competitive handicap in good style.

A big price winner of the Amateur rider's event, form students will possibly be kicking themselves as Another Rum had finished only nine lengths behind the hot favourite Point Barrow. At ten times the odds this was possibly one that got away. Another Rum made a bad blunder at the first fence but that certainly woke his ideas up and put in a spectacular round of jumping thereafter to win nicely in the end.

National Hunt Chase Result 2004

The thorough test of stamina, suited former useful hurdler Native Emperor, who was caught flatfooted when the runner-up quickened clear after four out, but responded to strong driving to get up about 120 yards from home. Celestial Gold turned in a much better effort here he looked to have stolen the race when dashed into a clear advantage after four out but couldn't hold on. Drombeag kept on without quite being able to get to the first two.

National Hunt Chase Result 2003

Mick Fitzgerald ran an exceptional race aboard the 2003 winner Xenophon, keeping the favourite in comfortably in touch with the pack before making his move approaching the last fence. In what was only his sixth race over hurdles, Xenophon looked like a seasoned campaigner and is sure to improve before next seasons Festival. Samon, trained by Marin Pipe came in a well fought second and Spectrometer stayed on well to clinch third place.
