Albert Bartlett Novices Hurdle

The race before the Gold Cup in 2012 was once again the Albert Bartlett Novices Hurdle and it looked like a cracking renewal for the young hurdlers. All the talk before the off was about Boston Bob who was the warm favourite for Willie Mullins and the bookmakers were itching to get him beat. We had a big field of 20 for the race and among the early leaders were Big Occasion and Brindisi Breeze for this staying contest. Boston Bob was held up towards the rear of the field in the early stages.

The same pair lead the field into the second circuit with the field happy to let them bowl along in front but not much covered the whole field. At the top of the hill it was still Big Occasion who was out in front  with Brindisi Breeze his closest challenger. Brindisi Breeze lead into the second last with Meister Eckhart looking dangerous and Boston Bob starting to make some ground. Brindisi Breeze was in front at the last and he managed to hold off Boston Bob up the hill to claim a famous win for Scotland in what looked a top class race.
