The Arkle is always an exciting race and all the talk before the off was about Ghizao, Finians Rainbow and Medermit who all went off well backed with Finians Rainbow in particular attracting money before the tapes went off. The early pace was set by Stagecoach Pearl who took them along at the usual Arkle fast clip with jumping being tested as you would expect, Finians Rainbow was racing very prominently in the early stages. The field was strung out at the top of the hill with Finians Rainbow setting the pace and travelling well for Barry Geraghty.
Finians Rainbow was clearly the one travelling the best heading to the second last with Captain Chris and Medermit starting to stay on. It was Captain Chris who challenged Finians Rainbow over the final fence and after looking the winner all the way it was Finians Rainbow who didnt find much up the hill to leave Captain Chris as the one who claimed the spoils after being well backed before the off. The Irish raider Realt Dubh stayed on well but he was some way behind back in third as he held off the favourite Medermit, but it was Captain Chris who claimed the win for Philip Hobbs and Richard Johnson.
