The Byrne Group Plate is always a tough one for punters and the betting looked tight once again this season with Salut Flo going off the favourite for David Pipe connections. The big field set off at a decent clip and among the early front runners were the likes of Salut Flo and Tartak whilee Fingeronthepulse was another one who was prominent. Notus De La Tour was an early faller after a pre race gamble.
As they came to the top of the hill there were a number in with a shout including Salut Flo and Gilbarry but plenty were in with a chance with a few to jump. It was Salut Flo though who continued to make the running with three left with Divers and Holmwood Legend looking dangerous in behind. There was no stopping Salut Flo as he stormed up the hill to win for David Pipe while The Cockney Mackem ran on late to finish second in good style for connections.
