Champion Bumper 2013 Results

The lucky last on day two of the Festival is the Champion Bumper and as always it looked like a really competitive race this season. The Irish have a strong record in the race and the likes of Golantilla and Le Vent D'Antan were two of the more fancied  runners from the Emerald Isle before the off. There was a big field for the race and the early pace was set by the likes of Kayf Moss and Vieux Lion Rouge who looked happy to set a good clip. The whole field were tightly packed for the majority of the early stages with Regal Encore one who was dropped out under AP McCoy.

As they came to the top of the hill you could have thrown a blanket over the whole field with every single horse within touching distance of the leaders and in with a real chance. The first to make a real move was Union Dues but Regal Encore was travelling well for McCoy and looking dangerous. Briar Hill then suddenly came from nowhere under Ruby Walsh to simply bolt up the hill in very taking fashion for Willie Mullins who continues his remarkable Bumper record. Regal Encore ran well to finish second but he was never able to land a blow on the winner with Ruby Walsh picking up yet another Festival winner for Ireland.
