Champion Hurdle Results

There was a great buzz around Cheltenham before the Champion Hurdle set off and it was Hurricane Fly who went off as the favourite for the feature race of the day, while plenty of others looked to have good chances. The early pace setter was predictably Overturn who is always at home leading the field at a fast clip with the hope of helping stable mate Peddlers Cross who was just in behind early on. Overturn was still setting the pace into the back straight with all the main contenders packed together in mid field.

Peddlers Cross took over from his stable mate at the top of the hill and looked in good shape with Oscar Whisky, Menorah and Hurricane Fly all looking dangerous going over the second last. The danger horse looked to be Hurricane Fly with Ruby Walsh motionless on board the Willie Mulllins horse and he duly picked up after the last to hold off a spirited challenge from Peddlers Cross while Oscar Whisky claimed a well deserved third place for each-way punters. Walsh reported that he struggled to settle Hurricane Fly but he still had too much for the field and he could a big star over the next few years in this division.
