The Champion Hurdle was the featured race of the first day of the Cheltenham Festival and all the talk before the race was about hot favourite Binocular who was one of 23 runners. It was Osana who took the race out early at a strong pace but all the contenders were in place behind him.
Coming over the final fence it was between Punjabi, Celestial Halo and Binocular and everyone expected Binocular to ease past them but it was not to be. It was Punjabi who pushed clear and he beat Celestial Halo by a head who just pushed Binocular into third place. Binocular didn't seem to have the legs up the Cheltenham Hill which was always the fear for Binocular supporters.
