The first race on the day three card was the excellent Jewson Novices Chase with ten top class horses going to post. Peddlers Cross started the race a warm order for Donald McCain and the bookmakers were hoping to get him beat here. The early gallop was set by Zaynar in the mist while Champion Court was also towards the front of the field in the early stages.
Zaynar and Champion Court continued to set the pace into the second circuit with most of the favourites held up towards the rear of the field. Champion Court went into the lead at the top of the hill with Sir Des Champs looking in good shape behind the leaders. Champion Court lead them into the second last but Sir Des Champs was cruising in behind him and he took the lead at the last and stormed up the hill to win at the Festival for the second year in a row. Champion Court ran a big race while For Non stop stayed well but neither were a match for Sir Des Champs.
