The biggest priced winner of the first day of the 2003 Cheltenham Festival was the Martin Pipe trained Royal Predica, which obliged connections at the massive odds of 33/1. Following an absense from the racing track of over ten months it was hardly surprising Royal Predica ran an erratic race, veering wide and off the pace for much of the event. The final few furlongs witnessed a massive reversal in form and following a decisive turn of pace Royal Predica crossed the line with plenty to spare. Ibis Rochelais ran a steady race as one can expect from the favourite, but could not compete over the final few furlongs. Flying the flag for the Irish was the third placed horse Rathbawn Prince.
