The first race of Day 2 at Cheltenham was of course the 4 mile National Hunt Chase and the field set off in murky conditions at Prestbury Park, Chicago Grey was the money horse before the race. There was a gentle pace early on with the pack tightly grouped with Major Malarkey an early faller leaving Chamirey as one of the leaders and he was being raced prominently while Chicago Grey was being held up at the back of the field during the first circuit or two.
As they came onto the final circuit the field were still tightly packed with plenty in with chances and travelling well. The first horse to make his move was Beshabar who tried to kick on at the top of the hill with Alfa Beat and Chicago Grey looking dangerous in behind him as well as Be There In Five. It was Chicago Grey who came upsides Beshabar over the last fence after being held up for the entire race and he simply bounded up the hill to take a highly impressive win for Gordon Elliott from Beshabar. Be There In Five ran on well to hold off Alfa Beat who came home back in 4th place for Charles Byrnes.
