National Hunt Steeple Chase
Neptune Investment Hurdle

The Neptune Novices Hurdle is always an exciting race for the young hurdlers and all the money before the tapes went up was for the exciting So Young and the in form Oscars Well who was also coming in for plenty of money. Aikman was the one leading them at a decent clip in the early stages with Tornado Bob just sat in behind him while So Young was held up towards the rear of the field by Ruby Walsh, and that remained the case right through the first circuit.

At the top of the hill the whole field were tightly packed and in with a chance and it was Oscars Well who was looking the one to beat heading to the final hurdle but he made a clattering mistake to rule out his chances. Rock On Ruby took up the running and he looked for all the world the winner but First Lieutenant was closing fast and he got up to win a hugely exciting photo finish for trainer Mouse Morris. So Young was another one who made a mistake at the last but he ran on well for third ahead of Oscars Well but in the end it was another win for Ireland and First Lieutenant in what could turn out to be a top class Neptune renewal.
