The Ryanair is run over 2 miles 5 furlongs and is for five year olds and above. The Ryanair is meant for horses that find 3 miles just beyond their stamina capabilities and just below Cheltenham Gold Cup standard.
The 2008 Ryanair winner Our Vic highlighted both these points as he looked as if he would be a Gold Cup horse in his younger days but it became clear that he fell in a hole beyond the two and a half mile distance and he just never managed to reach the very top of the game. Imperial Commander though changed that when he followed up his win in this race in 2009 by claiming the Gold Cup in 2010, he has proven how important his race can be with an eye on the future so we should be in for another cracker in 2013.
The Ryanair is generally a very interesting betting market at the festival with a number of very good chasers going to post and you can get this latest odds on this site
You can check out the form of the leading contenders as we build up to the Ryanair feature at the Festival come March. There will be horses dropping down from 3 miles to take their chance over the shorter distance and likewise horses stepping up from 2 miles and that is what makes this race so appealing
We will be looking at all the angles to arrive at a Ryanair Chase tip come the third day of the 2013 Cheltenham Festival. We know that Paul Nicholls with all the chasing talent will have a couple of possible entries and maybe they might feature in our tipping section.
