One of the features of the Flat season is the Prix de l'Arc De Triomphe which is run at the famous Longchamp racecourse in Paris. The Arc is open to horses of all ages and sexes and is run over the I mile 4 furlong trip.
The Prix de l'Arc De Triomphe is run the first week each October and usually for that time of the year the ground comes up pretty soft. The Arc is one of the best flat races of the year in that it brings together the very best 3 year olds against the older horses and generally the winners of the English Derby and the Irish Derby along with the Irish Champion Stakes winners all turn up and it makes for a great spectacle on the day.
The Arc trials are run a couple of weeks prior to the Prix de l'Arc De Triomphe and these can be somewhat misleading as the main contenders are generally never wound up and these races are usually run at a crawl and it can be very easy to get sucked in to the Arc ante post betting which can prove costly.
