Newbury have decided to honour the great Denman by naming this excellent Gold Cup Trial after the legendary chaser. The Paul Nicholls horse was recently retired after picking up an injury at home but his name will live on with the race at Newbury a fitting tribute. The race, formerly known as the Aon Chase, is a key Gold Cup trial with the Cheltenham Festival following only a few weeks later.
Previous winners of this race at Newbury include the likes of Kauto Star and Denman which only serves to highlight the class of the race with both horses going onto win the Gold Cup. We will get a better idea of some of the potential runners for the Newbury race closer to the time but there would be no surprise to see Paul Nicholls well represented in the race named after one of his stable stars.
