The Long Distance Hurdle is another one of the key trial races for the staying hurdlers who may well end up at Cheltenham and the Ladbrokes World Hurdle later in the season. The Long Distance Hurdle has developed into a key stepping stone for World Hurdle contenders and that has proven to be the case over the past few years with plenty of star names taking their chance at Newbury.
The Long Distance Hurdle has been the seasonal debut of some great world Hurdle names over the past few years including the great Inglis Drever who won the race three times, and Big Bucks who has won the race twice so far before going to Cheltenham to win the World Hurdle. It could well be that we see Paul Nicholls send Big Bucks back to Newbury this season for another crack at the Long Distance Hurdle as he begins another campaign towards the Festival in March.
