The Long Walk Hurdle is a Group 1 race in its own right but is mainly used as a trial race for horses who may potentially contest the Ladbrokes World Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival later in the season. The race is run at ascot each December and gives punters a great chance to run the rule over some of the best staying hurdlers in training.
Since 1971 there have been a number of winners of the Long Walk Hurdle who have then gone onto win the World Hurdle in the same season including the great Baracouda who did it 2001/02 and Big Bucks who has done twice recently. The class of those two horses highlights the standing that the Long Walk Hurdle is held in and it will be another race to watch this season as we get ready for another Cheltenham Festival.
