One of the first major races of the new year is the Victor Chandler Chase at Ascot. The Victor Chandler is run over 2 miles and always brings to the fore an up and coming chaser who has little experience but has the potential to develop into a very useful chaser in the long term with the 2012 Cheltenham Festival in mind.
The Victor Chandler Chase is a handicap and as such it is always very competitive and usually it takes a chaser who is a very accurate jumper. Putting up a Victor Chandler Chase tip is very difficult but as it is staged at Ascot it is best to look at a horse that has a good cruising speed so they can lay up with the pace as the ground is generally good on the Ascot course.
David Elsworth's grey Desert Orchid was the first winner of the Grade Two race in 1989 and the race has a distinguished roll of honour, with names such as Well Chief, Call Equiname, Martha's Son and Viking Flagship featuring among past winners.
