Inglis Drever went off the clear favourite but on the drift at 11/8 as the bookies looked to get him. Lough Derg went straight into the lead with Hardy Eustace in second with the favourite in the back group running strongly. There was very little change to the order as they passed the stands to go out into the country for the final time. My Way De Solzen was going ok in midfield and Inglis going well as they reached the top of the hill. Kasbah bliss came up strongly along with Kazal and Inglis Drever. At the last Inglis jumped it really well and just got the better of Kasbah Bliss in the charge to the line, as Inglis passed it in front for his third World Hurlde win.

Ladbrokes World Hurdle 2006 Results

The ground riding on the good side put most people off backing this progressive Alan King horse who has excelled himself over the longer distances this season and came into the race n great form. Always travelling well he took it up coming into the straight and made sure that anything coming from behind was going to have to outstay him coming up the hill. In the end Golden Cross got close to him but he held on well and will be back if fit for next year renewal.

Prior to the race Baracouda was all the rage and was sent off clear favourite to take the trophy for the third time. For those betting in running it looked as if Baracouda was running all over his rivals right until the final fence. Inglis Drever who runs lazily looked like he was in trouble as early as the first circuit, but he picked up for Graham Lee and went away from Baracouda to give us a new Champion.

Iris's Gift gained revenge on Baracouda for last year's defeat in the Stayers Hurdle with a well-earned and very popular win. All may not have been plain sailing at home for Iris's Gift this season but he had looked a hurdler of the highest class in finishing second in this contest as a novice last term, and he fulfilled that promise in fine style 12 months on. He was always prominent in a group of five who went clear from an early stage, went on 2 out and though the favourite closed menacingly at the last he found extra to hold him off in a ding-dong battle this time, actually pulling further clear in the final 50 yards. Baracouda had been seeking his third consecutive win in the race but just couldn't overcome his rival up the Cheltenham Racecourse hill.

Ladbrokes World Hurdle 2003 Results

As the winner of the 2002 Cheltenham Festival Stayers Hurdle, Baracouda went off a short priced joint-favourite for the 2003 event. He didn't disappoint his many horse racing backers and Baracouda became the first horse to successfully defend his title since 1988. Thierry Doumen pushed Baracouda to the head of the field shortly before the final fence and despite winning by less than a length you always had the impression there was another gear available if he came under more pressure. Berhard Geraghty continued his fine Cheltenham Festival Form taking second aboard Iris's Gift and on the evidence of this performance could be worth looking at in 2004. Limestone, the other joint favourite came in a well ran third place with the final furlong just being too much for him.
